Lords presentation from 2016

Welcome to Cricket Leaders

The Cricket Leaders Programme provides an opportunity for Young People between the ages of 14 and 16 to acquire skills and competency in leadership that will allow them to volunteer within the community of their cricket club and/or school.

The programme is currently open to leaders in the London Boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich and Lewisham as well as Surrey, Sussex, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Huntingdon, Essex and Hertfordshire. If you would like more information about the programme or would like to set the programme up in your county/area please contact us at  info@cricketleaders.org.uk

It seeks to retain Junior Members between U14-U15 (Year 9 &10) in cricket as a sport by investing quality time and resources into a specialised programme.

The programme has been running since 2010 when it was set up at Elthamians Cricket Club and quickly spread throughout the Borough of Bromley and Bexley in 2011. Since then, we have signed up leaders from a number of clubs and schools in the Metropolitan Kent area, Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Rochester, Surrey, Sussex, Essex, Buckinghamshire and the Cricket East area.

The modules:

ECB Activators Course 2 x 3 hours course or 1 x 6 hour course
ECB Scoring and umpiring2 hour course plus 30 minute online scoring module
First Aid
3 hour course

Recognition of the Programme

We were very lucky that awards soon followed with the programme earning:

Kent Outstanding Service to Cricket Award (OSCA) 2011 & 2012.

ECB National OSCA winner in 2012, runner up in 2011.

Pro-Active London Awards short listed (amongst 3) for Community Project of the year 2013.

Sport and Recreation Alliance Youth Project of the Year 2015.

Presentation of Youth Project of the Year.

The programme has now seen 1,100 young people on the programme and up to 2017, our young people have volunteered a combined total of 20,000 volunteering hours within their local community which is a fantastic achievement by them all!

2017 saw our Young Leaders team up with the ECB All stars team to learn additional skills for coaching the next generation of leaders.

One of our founders, Paul Daniels, was recognised with Prime Minister’s Points of Light Award in 2016 and we were very fortunate to invite some of our previous young leaders to the ceremony at Lords during the England versus Pakistan Test Match where Paul and the leaders were presented to former Prime Minister, John Major.

Cricket Leaders Community Interest Company (CIC) is a not for profit Social Enterprise set up to provide opportunities for Young People to acquire skills and competency in leadership by working along side recognised delivery partners to achieve these goals.

Leaders’ fund raising from the module will primarily be reinvested back into the running and expanding of this programme.

A portion of the fund raising will also go to Cricket Leaders’ chosen charity, The Ben Daniels Memorial Fund in association with Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

Ben was one of our first young leaders in 2010 and he was instrumental in gaining the backing and support of Bromley District in 2011 when we expanded the programme. His passion and enthusiasm for the game and the programme was infectious and provided great impetus going forward.

Sadly, a month after this meeting, Ben passed away from an undetected heart condition aged just 15.

To honour his legacy, Cricket Leaders is proud to support the Ben Daniels' Memorial Fund in association with Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
